It takes some explaining to help one discern what An Object of Wrath and Destruction actually is. Romans 9:22 is an elegant way of saying some people get screwed over in life, purposely by God.
Romans 9:22–But what if God, willing to demonstrate his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath prepared for destruction?
A simple example is Esau and Jacob. Jacob was a deceiver who God wound up wrestling with, but he had God’s favor. Esau meanwhile lost his birthright, and God seemingly paved the way for this. It doesn’t mean Esau couldn’t be saved, but he had to get over God’s disfavor on earth in order to get there.
In our more recent context, being hated by God seemingly involves having your demise foreshadowed for years. Unbeknownst to John Lennon obviously, there were clues planted going back to the Beatle years.
Hotel California, released by the Eagles exactly 4 years before John Lennon’s death on December 8th 1976, says forwards Last thing I remember I was running for the door. Turned around backwards it says John Lennon by himself. Suffice to say, this isn’t backwards masking the Eagles would have been aware of.
But there is another instance of this: I could have shown you a few years ago but I wasn’t prescient enough to save the video and now it has been completely scrubbed from the internet. John Lennon and Yoko Ono, in 1971, did a song called Attica State, about the Attica prison riots.
That, given that Mark David Chapman spent 30+ years there after murdering John, is eerie enough. But after they are finished with the song, David Frost invites a couple down to the front to engage John and Yoko in a debate. Seated right next to them is a guy who looks virtually identical to how Mark David Chapman is going to look 9 years in the future. The couple takes umbrage at Yoko’s portrayal of the Attica prisoners as victims and yells to John and Yoko that their perception is fine until one of these prisoners kills one of your family members; all the while this Mark David Chapman alike is sitting right next to them.
